The Iqbal Convention Center is envisioned as a new civic landmark for Islamabad; a monolithic structure emerging from the city’s evolving urban fabric along the Srinagar Highway. Designed as both an architectural and cultural statement, the project seeks to exaggerate the convention typology through sculptural form, contextual sensitivity, and material expression. The design establishes a dialogue between solidity and lightness. Its exterior, composed of sweeping terracotta fins and cast-in-place concrete surfaces, creates a rhythmic façade that filters light while grounding the building in the local material landscape. Within, a grand atrium acts as the heart of the project - a fluid spatial volume defined by interwoven staircases and cascading circulation paths that animate the interior. Functionally, the building accommodates large-scale conferences, exhibitions, and cultural events, while offering flexibility for smaller gatherings and performances. The spatial organization prioritizes intuitive movement, visual connectivity, and a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor environments. Beyond its physical presence, the Iqbal Convention Center represents J+ Studio’s evolving design philosophy - one that merges precision with poetry, and context with contemporary form - aiming to create architecture that is both enduring and expressive.
